Bueller...Bueller...Honda's Super Bowl Commercial Brings Back Iconic Role

Car manufacturers are really pulling out the stops for this year's Super Bowl. We've seen big contests, major giveaways, advertisements for advertisements and now the return of a legendary movie character we haven't seen in more than 25 years. One of the greatest movie characters of the 80s is back...to advertise Hondas.

A short teaser clip featuring Matthew Broderick - the actor that played Ferris Bueller for those that aren't up on 80s trivia - hit the Web on Thursday. The YouTube description says simply: "We hate to be such a tease, but on a day like today, we just have to. Stick it out until the Super Bowl, or take a "day off" on Monday and catch the big reveal." The teaser was posted by 'chukachuka2012' as in chuka...cchhhukkaaa with no solid evidence of what it was all about.

Initial speculation pointed to a Ferris Bueller sequel or remake. The Super Bowl would be a logical place to advertise the sudden return of such a big-time movie.

But no, says Jalopnik, the teaser clip is actually for a Honda commercial that will air during the game. According to the blog, Honda sources gave hints about a Bueller-inspired ad earlier this year. It's going to basically watch like a replay of the movie, only with Hondas in place of cars like the Ferrari 250GT.

The 10-second teaser shows a modern day Broderick determined to take the day off of work. Then the unforgettable "OHHH YEAAHHH" tune cuts in.

If indeed this is a Honda commercial, we think it could very well be the best car commercial, if not the best commercial period, of the Super Bowl. We weren't particularly impressed with Chevy's ad, and while we're eager to see where VW's ad goes, a random return of a beloved movie character like Ferris Bueller sounds like a clear winner. Assuming they do it well.

Less than a week to find out, but so far so good.
