The New Tesla Roadster? PG Elektrus Elise-Based Sports EV

The Tesla Roadster was discontinued in the US last year and there's at least a few years before we see a replacement. One German manufacturer is stepping into the void and offering a Roadster-esque EV also built atop a Lotus chassis. The PG Elektrus promises even more all-electric performance than the Roadster...and a whole lot more price.

The Elektrus may look more Fisker Karma with that toothy grille and vehicle-mounted solar panel, but it bears more in common with the Roadster. Like the Roadster, it owes its underpinnings to Lotus. While Lotus stopped production of North American Elise and Exige models due to the loss of an airbag exemption, it continues to offer them in other markets.

The Elektrus' numbers also look rather Tesla-like but even better: 0 to 62 mph in under 3 seconds, a 186 mph top speed and a range of 217 miles. For reference, the Roadster had a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, a top speed of 125 mph and a range of 245 miles.

PG hasn't detailed the powertrain of the Elektrus.

While we can't quite agree with PG's description of the car as "charismatic," we can't argue with the fact that it "it really sticks out from the crowd of cookiecutter cars." In this case, it leaves us searching for the cookie cutter - or something to tone down that deranged face.

PG plans to begin production this year. According to Autoblog, it will sell the car for more than three times the price of the Roadster - around $367,700. As you'd expect with such an expensive car, there will be plenty of customization options available.

I like the look of this car it defiantly is different and has a outrageous price tag to go with it.
