Pathfinder Emerges On Detroit Floor

Although Nissan is still calling this particular Pathfinder a ‘concept’ model, the company – optimistically – still intends to produce and sell a fourth generation remake later this year. But perhaps the company’s use of a concept moniker is actually an encouraging sign. Perhaps all is not lost.

Because no one wants a Nissan Murano XL, mislabeled in some kind of cruel homage to Nissan’s trail-blazing heritage.

To be fair, the all-new Pathfinder will undoubtedly have a long list of intriguing and revolutionary features – including an anticipated 25 percent increase in combined city and highway fuel efficiency. Almost prophetically, Nissan has predicted a mixed media response and dropped a mouthful of excitement in a recent company press release.

“If there is one constant among the first quarter century-plus of the Pathfinder’s existence, it has been its ability to innovate, with each generation evolving to meet the changing needs of the customer,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “With the upcoming, fourth-generation model, we’re about to re-invent Pathfinder again. We’ve created a vehicle with an extraordinary balance of SUV capability, thoughtful technology and premium comfort to lead the segment once again – and help owners accomplish more in the real world, not just off-road.”

So there you have it. Pathfinder buyers of the future will experience exceptional, class-leading features meant for real world practicality. Details remain fuzzy for the time being, but expect a veritable torrent of information in the coming months. And feel free to let us know what you think about a Pathfinder CUV with “an extraordinary balance of SUV capability.” Yeah or nay?
