Bugatti vs. GT-R, When Worlds Collide [Video]

Well, it’s not every day we see two industry titans battle head-to-head in a quarter mile, full throttle sprint to the finish. Just a few days ago, these seemingly unlikely competitors – considering their respective costs-to-purchase – met to do just that in the appropriately sophisticated city of Palm Beach, Florida at the Palm Beach International Raceway.

Supercar fans may not like the results, however. While the Bugatti Veyron put up an impressive post time, beating the GT-R, the gap between the two vehicles was hardly enough to justify their price disparity. For 2011, the Bugatti Veyron started with an MSRP over $2,000,000 and yet the Nissan GT-R hovers around a meager $90,000.

Did the Bugatti perform 20 times better than Nissan’s Godzilla? Ha! We might as well be asking if Godzilla flinched when Mothra went all ‘protective mother’ on the world to save her eggs.

Most interestingly, civilian quarter mile duels usually feature sub-par drivers who are incapable of reproducing the maximum performance potential of their respective machines. But this video is a bit different. Both drivers managed quarter mile times which surpass specs determined by the industry’s top auto journalists.

The Bugatti Veyron managed a smile-inducing 10.1 second quarter mile time at 139.4 mph, while the Nissan GT-R executed an astounding 10.9 second run at 125.7 mph. For street cred purposes: Inside Line achieved a mere 11.2 seconds with the GT-R and Roach & Track pulled off a 10.2 second run with the Bugatti.

Apparently Palm Beach is a town filled with pseudo-professional racers – a fact which is verified by the GT-R driver who skillfully waited for the Bugatti to launch before starting his own run. Novice drag racers often confuse the strip’s green launch light for the start of their run time, while seasoned sprinters recognize that the clock only starts ticking once your vehicle crosses the line. This GT-R driver wanted to give himself the best possible run, to be started on his own terms.

Hit the video below for all the juicy details…but don’t forget to ask yourself one question. If you had $2,000,000 to burn on automotive glory, would you buy twenty GT-Rs or one Bugatti Veyron?

Their sure is a differences in price between these vehicles, but its obvious you get what you pay for. I don't see how they thought the Nissan was going to beat the Bugatti.
