Chrysler Introduces 300 Luxury Series Flagship

Earlier this year, Fiat said that it planned to return Chrysler to a role of true luxury brand. The 300 Luxury Series, Chrysler's newly announced flagship luxury sedan, shows that the company is serious about the move but has a long way to go before Chrysler is truly a competitor to Cadillac, Lincoln and luxury imports.

The 300 Luxury Series uses the same 292-hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 or 363-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 as the standard 300 models but straps it to a ZF eight-speed paddle-shift transmission. The V-6/eight-speed transmission combination delivers a best-in-class 31 mpg highway, according Chrysler.

In addition to the new transmission, Chrysler defines its luxury flagship with upgraded interior appointments like ultra-premium Italian Poltrona Frau leather on par with that of "exotic Italian luxury cars" and hand-sanded matte wood. Specifically, Chrysler offers Black or Mochachino Poltrona Frau "Foligno" leather-wrapped instrument panel, cluster brow, center console side panels and upper front- and rear-door panels with Nappa leather armrest, bolster, center console armrest and seats. Natural Pore Mocha wood trim gets a matte finish to enhance its natural beauty.

Equipment includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Garmin navigation and Sirius XM Traffic and Travel Link, LED-illuminated instrument cluster, power tilt and telescoping steering column with memory, power-adjustable pedals with memory, dual heated/cooled cup holders, LED-illuminated interior door handles and front and rear map pockets, premium carpeted trunk mat, and HomeLink universal transceiver.

On the exterior, the 300 Luxury Series models get 20-inch polished face and aluminum pocket wheels in rear-wheel versions and 19-inch wheels in AWD variants. The front of the car is defined by a platinum-chrome mesh grille with platinum-chrome surround.

Chrysler calls the Luxury Series the "most highly appointed sedans the brand has ever offered."

Pricing is as follows:

Chrysler 300 Luxury Series (RWD) $40,145

Chrysler 300 Luxury Series (AWD) $42,495

Chrysler 300C Luxury Series (RWD) $42,895

Chrysler 300C Luxury Series (AWD) $45,245

While creating a definitive "luxury flagship" is a step in the right direction for defining yourself as a luxury marque, the equipment and pricing on this one fall well below the flagships of other luxury brands. If Chrysler really wants to be a true luxury brand, it will need to push farther up market than $45K.

The Luxury Series will arrive in dealerships starting in winter 2012.

This car is nice, but i dont think Chrysler will ever be able to compete with Cadillac and Lincoln.
