Utah Man Wins Lamborghini Murcielago, Crashes It The Same Day

David Dopp won a Lamborghini Murcielago during a halftime show of a BYU football game in November. He was one of ten finalists in the Mavericks gas station “Joe Schmo to Lambo” contest at Lavelle Edwards Stadium.

Dopp wasn’t able to take the car home immediately; he had to put insurance on the car before they would deliver it to his house. After a ceremony at a Maverick gas station in Dopp’s hometown of Santaquin, he was finally handed over the keys to his new Lamborghini by a nonprofit organization.

“I couldn’t believe I won it” David Dopp told reporters from KSL, a local Utah television news station. “It was kind of weird seeing a more expensive car than my house sitting in the same spot,” Dopp continued, “Usually, you see these sitting outside mansions, not outside a little house here in Santaquin.”

After taking possession of the Lamborghini, David Dopp did what any other car freak would do. He showed the car off to his friends and family and went for a joy ride, but after only six hours, Dopp and the Lambo ended up off the road into a field.

“Yeah I got it Saturday and crashed it Saturday,” Dopp told KSL. “We were coming up a hill, going around a corner and as soon as we came up the hill, we either hit some black ice or loose gravel or something and all of the sudden we just started spinning,” Dopp said. “We ended up in a field, and I back ended a couple of fence post.”

“My heart pretty much fell out,” Annette Dopp, David’s wife, told reports, after David’s passenger called her. ‘They said they were OK, than you know, that feeling when your heart drops and you’re like, Oh my gosh. What did I do now?”

After the crash, the Lamborghini wasn’t drivable, so a tow company came to pick the Lamborghini up. One tire was punctured and the body had some damage to the front and passenger sides. The wrecked Murcielago will be taken to a Las Vegas body shop to assess the damage and give Dopp’s insurance a quote.

“That’s what insurance is for,” Dopp said in the news clip. “It’s going to be all nice and pretty here in a couple of months, I’m sure.”

Dopp had also won $5000 worth of driving lessons from Millersport’s Park. Maybe he should have taken the lessons before getting in the 640-horsepower Italian supercar. Let’s hope he learned his lessons from this.

Wow some other articles say he did this on purpose because of the taxes on the car. But you never know it could have been a freak accident.
