Hertz Offers Supercar Rentals... In UK

Forget Times Square this New Year's Eve; London is the place to ring in the new year. We can think of few better ways to get 2012 off to the right start than by getting behind the wheel of an exotic supercar that you ogle pictures of all year round. A staple in the car rental industry is delivering just that opportunity, but unfortunately for US citizens and other foreigners, it's only happening in the UK at the moment.

Hertz has launched Hertz Supercars, a division that rents such cars as the Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari 458 and McLaren MP4-12C. It partnered with Premiere Collection, a boutique supercar rental company, to gain access to a very impressive collection of premium rentals. So you can now rent out a slew of legitimate supercars and premium luxury cars from one of the biggest names in car rental.

While small boutique firms in wealthy areas like New York and Miami have offered supercar rentals for years, Hertz is the first of the mainstream car rental brands to do so, according to Business Insider (and our own recollection).

In addition to the aforementioned cars, Hertz Supercars has rentals from Bentley, Maserati, Lamborghini and Rolls Royce. Even the more everyday offerings like BMW and Mercedes models are skewed toward the upper echelons, with offerings like the 7 Series and SLS AMG.

Of course, while Hertz may be the first mainstream company to offer exotic rentals, some things don't change. These rentals won't come cheap, and they won't come to just anyone. The supercars will be restricted to those between the ages of 25 and 70 with six license points or less. Also, if you're using an international license, you must have had it for two years or more--so there goes the last minute trip to the UK just to drive an awesome car.

The cars start at $235 a day, but that's for something ho-hum like the Land Rover Discovery. The cars that you red-blooded sports car junkies really want are going to be a bit more. The Ferrari California (the entry level Ferrari) costs about £620 a day ($970) while the award-winning 458 Italia (might as well start there if you want a Ferrari) starts at around £830 ($1,300). The McLaren MP4-12C runs £900 ($1,400). If I've learned anything about rental cars, it's that the advertised per-day price is going to jump a whole lot higher once you start adding things like extra mileage fees and taxes.

Hertz Supercars will cost a whole lot more than that $45/day small sedan you rented last time, but will bring a whole lot more fun too.

You can see all the options and starting prices at HertzSupercars.com.

Wow that's some hefty prices for a car rental. But i guess if you want to drive one for a day than you sure can.
