Looking Sharper Everyday, Dodge Dart Gets (More) Teasing

Over the past month details have slowly emerged about Dodge’s newest entry into the compact sedan segment. Discussions initially raged about possible design platforms, engine options, and finally the would-be Dodge’s future name. We know now, this latest Dodge will be officially labeled the Dart – channeling days of yore.

Along with a company-provided teaser website, the following images allow an opportunity for tiny Mopar fans to start salivating. What’s more, since we know the 2013 Dodge Dart will be based on Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta, we can get a basic idea of how the car might look by imagining the front and rear fascia images provided by Dodge tacked onto the body of an appropriate Alfa.

But high anxiety fans won’t have to wait too long. Dodge plans to officially unveil the Dart at Detroit’s North American Auto Show in January. Until then we can expect specifics to slowly emerge, including a recently announced pairing of several Fiat engines like the Tigershark 2.0-liter, 2.4-liter and 1.4-liter four-cylinder Multiair.

Woah…slow down, you say. Fiat and Alfa DNA? “The Giuletta is renowned for satisfying the most demanding customers in terms of road-holding, agility and safety, with exceptional driving dynamics. The Dart leverages all of these attributes within a lengthened and widened platform delivering segment-leading levels of interior roominess.” So, Americans can expect all the benefits of European road feel with the added bonus of increased size – because we have to have our space.

And here’s the best news: despite foreign engineering, the all-new Dart will be made in America at the former home of the Dodge Neon in Belvidere, Illinois.

For now details remain cloudy, but all signs suggest that Dodge is taking the company’s newest compact seriously. The Alfa Romeo Giuletta is widely considered a great driving car, capable of competing with other segment compacts. How will the 2013 Dodge Dart stack up with the likes of the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, or Hyundai Elantra? Our guess is that the Dodge Dart may actually end up turning some heads and surprising the competition.

As we’ve seen with recent models like the Charger and Challenger, when Dodge decides to dust off once-famous brand names for a modern retake, the company meets and exceeds public expectation – a fact that would likely make the brothers, John and Horace, quite proud.

Still interested? Keep an eye out for Dodge Dart interior pics, scheduled for release on December 13th.
