Land Rover To Add Longer Evoque

Land Rover To Add Longer Evoque

When I first saw a headline about a bigger Evoque, I thought "Isn't that the Range Rover Sport? Wasn't the entire point of the Evoque to be a smaller, less expensive alternative to Range Rover's other SUVs?" But, inspired by the success of its smallest model to date, Land Rover is considering adding a larger Evoque model, which would occupy the space between the current three- and five-door Evoque models and the Range Rover Sport.

Autocar reports that the idea of a larger Evoque was conceptualized as a combination of the Evoque's success--which includes a recent Motor Trend designation as "SUV of the Year", Land Rover's greater success and the growing sales of competitor lines like the BMW X and Audi Q.

The 'Grand Evoque' would likely share its underpinnings with the current Evoque but would get stretched by about 300 mm, providing more interior room and more trunk space. Land Rover may even use the stretched body to offer a third row of seating.

Though the territory between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport may seem slim, particularly with updated versions of the latter likely to borrow styling cues from the former, Land Rover is expected to move farther up market with the Sport and range-topping Range Rover.

With manufacturers like Bentley and Lamborghini setting their sights on the SUV market, Land Rover will look to maintain its ground in the luxury SUV market by increasing the quality and price of its higher end models. That will widen the gap between the Evoque and other Range Rovers, making plenty of room for a larger Evoque.

The Grand Evoque may launch as soon as 2015. In terms of drivetrain, it will likely dip into the new four-cylinder gas and diesel engines currently under development. Autocar also cites a hybrid version as a possibility.

I would like to see this SUV, i really like the idea of them wanting to make a larger SUV because the ones they have now are kinda small for their price tag.
