Nissan Seat Technology Keeps You Awake And Alert

Anyone that's ever taken a road trip knows that staying awake on a long drive gets difficult after a while. There's a lot of boring, monotonous country out there and driving through it for hours on end is bound to make you yawn and blink a little more frequently than usual. Of course, falling asleep at the wheel isn't an option and sometimes you have to just chug caffeine, blast freezing outside air onto your face, slap yourself and otherwise power through. Nissan believes that it has yet another solution: fatigue-reducing seats.

Nissan believes its seats can reduce fatigue by up to 50 percent. The design offers more support for your spine between the pelvis and chest. It takes some of the pressure off your spine and muscles and improves blood flow. In other words, you should be able to drive more comfortably and more alertly.

The seats can be wrapped in both leather and fabric. Nissan plans to begin offering them in both Nissan and Infiniti models by next year.

According to What Car?, which did a quick test at Nissan's plant in Oppama, Japan, the seats are noticeably more comfortable and offer more support of the hips and shoulders.

I suppose I'd like to hear more testimonials before dropping any money on them, but it sounds promising. Anything that can help you stay awake and safe during long drives is a welcome addition.
