New Gumpert Supercar Teased

Usually automakers as exotic as Gumpert only build one or two models at any given point in history. But Gumpert appears eager to expand beyond a one-hypercar exotic nameplate. Last year, it introduced the Tornante by Touring--a sexier, more refined supercar over its original Apollo--at the 2011 Geneva Motor show. Just one year later, Gumpert will follow that debut with another new model.

Gumpert has offered very little on its new car, but released a shadowy teaser photo and the vague promise of a car with an "unmistakable sound."

From the photo, we see a car that appears very similar to the Apollo--kind of a step backwards in styling from the smoother Tornante. The burly front fenders look all Apollo, but the headlights appear to be modified, so we're thinking this is a unique model and not just a special edition Apollo.

Of course, it's pretty hard to identify for sure, given the vagueness of the photo. Having only a head-on look also means we have no idea what the overall shape and styling look like.

We'd like to say the "unmistakable sound" bit offers more of an insight, but any 700+ hp supercar tends to have its own unmistakable sound, so that really isn't that telling.

What we'd expect based on Gumpert's past offerings is a lightweight, ultra-powerful exotic.

The Tornante has a tuned 691-hp twin-turbo Audi V-8 engine, a carbon monocoque and composite body panels. What results is a sub-3,000-lb. car that could fire up to 186 miles per hour.

Hopefully, a little more information will go public before Geneva, but if not, we'll see what Gumpert's cooking in March.

This is going to be a very cool surprise to every one at the Geneva Motor Show.
