Luxury Gets Large With Infiniti JX SUV

Infiniti used the LA Auto Show to introduce its all-new JX crossover. When it hits the market next year, the JX will be one of Infiniti's biggest, most versatile utility vehicles.

Infiniti sees the 2013 JX as a vehicle that will "shake up the status quo." Specifically, it will bring a new level of interior flexibility and roominess, safety, and advanced features to the luxury crossover segment.

The JX features three rows of seating, providing enough spots for up to seven--segment-leading passenger volume by Infiniti's count. Those three rows can be reconfigured for gear over people: Both rows have split folding, and the second row slides forward, increasing the cargo capacity. The flat floor and adjustability allow all passengers to be seated in comfort, and the wide door openings and six inches of 2nd row travel allow third row occupants to enter and exit with ease.

The JX takes safety beyond the ubiquitous warning systems with the available Backup Collision Intervention system, a world first, according to Infiniti. The system not only warns you of oncoming traffic when you're backing up, but actually reacts if you fail to hit the brakes.

Infiniti describes the styling of the JX as "stunning", "emotive" and inspired by the Essence concept, but none of those claims really comes through to me. It's an alright looking SUV, but that face is just a little big and hanging.

While the exterior is debatable, the interior offers plenty. In addition to its highly configurable cabin, the driver seat provides access to a new Intelligent-View display in the center meter cluster, easy-read Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges, and a standard 7-inch color info display. Chrome accents, leather-appointed seats and a refined color palette add visual appeal throughout the cabin. The front seats are heated standard and a Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control keeps all passengers comfy.

Options like the Bose 15-speaker sound system with Acoustic Waveguide subwoofer make the drive even more enjoyable.

The JX becomes the first vehicle to offer Infiniti Connection and Infiniti Connection Plus. Infiniti Connection services include 24-hour Automatic Crash Notification, Emergency Call, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, stolen vehicle reporting, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Alarm Notification and Maintenance Alert. Those services are complimentary for the first year of ownership.

The JX hits the US market next spring with a base price of $40,450.
