2012 Cadillac XTS: Most Technologically Advanced Caddy Ever

One of the biggest stories from this month's LA Auto Show is the launch of the 2012 Cadillac XTS, a car that Cadillac calls its "most technologically advanced production car" in brand history. The luxury sedan delivers a rich combination of technological convenience, comfort and performance.

The XTS is larger and more luxurious than the CTS. It is powered by a 300-hp direct-injected 3.6-liter V-6 engine, and Caddy's Haldex all-wheel-drive system delivers power to the quartet of wheels. The car features Magnetic Ride Control, a suspension system that Caddy calls the world's fastest reacting. Magnetic Ride Control was also used on the Chevy Camaro ZL1.

Standard safety features include lane departure warning, Stabilitrak electronic stability control, Side Blind Zone Alert and Forward Collision Alert systems.

Performance technologies work to deliver a tight ride while an array of interior equipment delivers convenience and comfort to the driver. The XTS marks the debut of the CUE (Cadillac User Experience), a new infotainment interface that gives some customization options to drivers. More than just your standard infotainment system, the CUE features industry first technologies like gesture recognition and capacitive touch input. It has an 8-inch touchscreen display and steering wheel controls. A 12.3-inch screen is also available.

The CUE system is designed to simplify and streamline in-vehicle information. It eliminates unnecessary buttons, adds larger, more visible icons and lets users customize screens and information. It pulls data and entertainment from up to 10 Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices, USBs, SD cards and MP3 players and presents it in an easy-to-use way.

The XTS is Cadillac's largest sedan and provides plenty of room for passengers and storage, including 40 inches of rear legroom and 18 cu. ft. of trunk space.

The Cadillac XTS will hit the market next spring. Pricing has yet to be announced.

I really like the XTS, Cadillac is going to have to do more to turn people from German luxury cars.
The new features in the XTS are good and the exterior is almost cutting edge. I think the XTS will do well, Cadillac needs a car that will stir up more curiosity. The XTS is nice but it looks like a bigger CTS and will be hard to tell them apart. The CTS-V was a good strategy for Cadillac. Let's hope the XTS do as well.
