Nissan Food Truck Concepts

When you think of Nissan, you probably think of the unapologetic performance of the GT-R or maybe the green credentials of the Nissan Leaf. The automaker seems to be trying its hardest to ensure that you also automatically think of its NV series people movers.

Within the month of November, we've seen an NV taxi, NV full-size van and now a pair of NV-based food truck concepts. Nissan generated some positive buzz by slinging ice cream and grilled cheese sandwiches at the LA Auto Show.

Nissan clearly wants to show how versatile its NV line is. In food truck trim, the NV concepts are covered in graphics and feature fold-out service windows for dishing out food. Nissan teamed with LA-based outfits The Grilled Cheese Truck and Coolhaus Truck in showcasing its concepts.

In addition to showcasing versatility, the use of food trucks helps Nissan to leverage a hot trend. Food trucks have been all the rage in big cities around the country lately, taking what you know about food from a truck and adding all kinds of culinary twists. It's now possible to get a full variety of creative cuisine from a four-wheeled truck, as showcased on the Food Network's recent "The Great Food Truck Race."

I think Nissan could have gone a little less Vanilla with its ice cream and sandwich tact. Today's food trucks have become known for delivering edgy, interesting cuisine that you can't necessarily find in any restaurant. Things like Asian fusion tacos and Korean barbecue have become common fare at the four-wheeled restaurants.

To be fair, the two trucks aren't as simplistic as they sound. The Grilled Cheese Truck uses all kinds of cheeses and ingredients in its sandwiches, including gruyere, brie and chicken andouille sausage, and serves innovative but homey dishes like macaroni and cheese topped with BBQ pork. Coolhaus offers a large variety of gourmet ice cream sandwiches made from a combination of organic ice cream and cookies. Ice cream flavors include such exotics as "brown butter with candied bacon" and "olive oil with rosemary."

I think it would be a great i idea for Nissan to put these logos on trucks.
