WARNING: Future Genesis Coupe Photoshop Leak!

Don’t believe everything you hear… or see, for that matter. Websites all across the blogosphere are announcing an ‘official’ Hyundai Genesis Coupe reveal, which after some due diligence has turned out to be no more than an elegant sham. The sly dogs over at thecarblogger.net managed to captivate the entire auto journalism sphere this morning by releasing the above image.

What threw so many upstanding and credibility-seeking bloggers off? This photoshopped image depicts a vehicle which looks a lot like images we’ve seen of the upcoming 2013 Genesis with a face mask. So really, thecarblogger.net sort of did us all a favor—producing an image we could assemble only in our minds. The only real problem is that Hyundai has already distributed notes rejecting this as an official image.

In theory, all minds will be put to rest in January at the Detroit Motor Show when Hyundai is expected to unveil an authentic, unphotoshopped version.

Assuming it actually ends up looking like this, the 2013 Genesis appears much more aggressive than the outgoing model. But would this redesign be enough to compete with better selling sport coupes like the Ford Mustang or Chevy Camaro?

While the image doesn’t reveal too much, it does provide just enough to whet our appetites. The front fascia looks to receive a potent facelift, and the wheels also get a nice aesthetic upgrade with dual five-spoke rims. Making an assumption from SEMA, we know that Hyundai is capable of fitting a 5.0-liter Tau V8 under the hood but will probably opt for a supercharged V6 instead. Even with phony imagery, engine details remain cloudy.

From a thematic perspective the 2013 looks quite similar to Hyundai’s new kid on the block, the 2012 Veloster, and with some imagination we can envision how this photoshopped image might actually end up being similar to the real-deal authentic 2013 Genesis Coupe. But viewer beware; not everything is what it seems. If Hyundai says this image is not legitimate, then we can only sit back, wait, and wonder.
