Nissan's Taxi Of Tomorrow

Cars evolve every year and get more and more user-friendly. Safety and comfort features that were once offered only on premium cars slide slowly down-market until entry and mid-level cars become every bit as functional and comfortable as luxury cars just a generation or two ago.

If Nissan's "taxi of tomorrow" is any indication, this trend will be as true in public transportation as it is in privately owned vehicles—because this thing has the type of comfort and features well above what I'd expect to find in a taxi. The NV200 isn't just a fun concept, but a look at the model that will become the exclusive taxi of New York City in just two years.

Nissan makes the taxi experience much better for the consumer beginning with the basics. Taxi cabins aren't exactly known for their fresh aroma, but thanks to some purposely selected interior materials, Nissan says the NV200 should stay fresher. Unlike traditional car-based taxis, the NV200 is a people mover and should offer a more comfortable drive with a flat floor and room for four passengers and luggage.

Nissan doesn't stop at the basics, either. The NV200 offers a variety of conveniences. Passengers can park their drinks in cupholders and charge their electronics via integrated USB charging ports. They can also maintain comfort, thanks to rear-seat climate controls.

While enjoying a more comfortable ride, visitors can take in views of the bustling population and towering buildings of the Big Apple, thanks to a transparent roof panel that augments the windows in providing views outside.

I've traveled in NYC cabs once or twice (though I have a limited recollection, thanks to the fact that it was mostly after indulging in the city's nightlife), and this thing looks like a huge improvement over the existing cabs. The NV200 won the job of NYC cab for the next 10 years, by which time we may be seeing personal refrigerators and massage seats in the next generation.

The new taxi is a great idea. Its just what New York needs, it seems to be more convenient for passengers. They can charge there electronics on the go and have some were to put there drink.I think the new taxi will be a great hit for New York.
