Blake Griffin Edition Kia Optima At SEMA

This week is typically when the sports world welcomes back the NBA season. But this year, thanks to greed and complete negotiation failure, the world doesn't have an NBA season. And it might not anytime soon.

It wasn't that long ago that things were normal in the NBA. In fact, it was just a couple of months ago. In addition to watching an overstacked, over-hyped Miami team lose to the Dallas Mavericks in the finals, one of the biggest highlights of the 2010-11 season was dunk machine Blake Griffin. From winning the slam dunk contest to being a regular on highlight clips, the young Griffin added some serious energy and excitement to the NBA.

Kia is recognizing Griffin's contributions via a special edition Optima.

For those that don't follow the NBA or Kia, the tie-in between Griffin and Kia may seem tenuous, but it actually makes perfect sense. In his slam dunk contest-winning bid, Griffin jumped over a Kia Optima. Having watched the entire dunk contest, I didn't think the Optima dunk was that much of a highlight—Griffin jumped over the width of the car, not the length, and there were definitely more athletic dunks in the contest. However, it was an electric moment when they rolled the Kia out and one worth capitalizing on.

So for this week's SEMA show, Kia debuted a Blake Griffin-inspired Optima. Designed by West Coast Customs, the car is designed to look like a basketball with its knobby texturing and House of Color sunset and cinnamon pearl paint scheme. It also features Griffin's logo on the hood.

Inside, the car gets wood basketball floors, Griffin's autograph, and leather seats and detailing. Making the car perfect for any tailgate are flat-screen TVs, an upgraded audio system, XBOX console and, best of all, a mini-basketball net that pops out of the trunk.

This is one of the cooler special editions we've seen out of SEMA. Let's just hope we get to see Griffin back on the court sometime soon. Here's a look at what the guy brings to the table:
