Audi Flashes 2013 A4 Models, Including Allroad And S4

With a new BMW 3 Series headed to market, Audi has chosen an ideal time to launch a modernized lineup for the currently aging set of A4 models. Expect big changes to overall design and powertrains coming in the summer of 2012, listed as 2013 models, when the next wave of all-new Audi A4s comes to fruition.

From a distance the latest A4 looks very similar to previous generations. However, perusing the pictures, it’s easy to appreciate just how dramatic this redesign will actually be. The front fascia, bumpers, hood, headlights, accent lines, and overall shape have been modernized. The one characteristic that harks to Audi’s past, and may also have the effect of lulling viewers into a false sense of out-datedness, is the vehicle’s stance. The 2013 Audi A4s remain squat, sturdy-looking vehicles.

Drivers who opt for an optional MMI navigation system get some pretty nifty tech features including voice-controlled Google navigation, web browsing capability, and WLAN hotspot connection.

While European buyers may choose from a veritable feast of engine options—six turbo diesels and four gasoline engines—US buyers can at least expect a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder (211 hp) and a 3.0-liter supercharged six cylinder (333 hp) in the S4 variant. Autoblog also reports that the US may get the 1.8-liter turbo four, but details remain fuzzy.

Per the usual, Quattro will be offered across the model lineup. Transmission options should include a six-speed manual, CVT paired exclusively with FWD, and an eight- or seven-speed automatic. Like many new luxury sport sedans, expect electromechanical power steering as well.

Regarding pricing, Audi suggests that 2013 A4 prices “have changed only slightly, despite extensive upgrading.” Although no official number is confirmed, it seems likely a cost bump is inevitable.

Check out the videos below for some static shots of the latest Audis. The company claims their S4 will launch from 0-60 in under 5.0 seconds—the sooner we get that video, the better. Also, as a matter of preference, a video of the Allroad conquering a vertical ski jump would be really nice.

In short, expect some big aesthetic changes and some subtle technology enhancements. Will these updates be enough to finally eclipse BMW’s goliath 3 series? Audi will certainly remain in the hearts and minds of a big support group. With 39 years in production and over 10 million individual models sold, the A4 is a car with a strong foundation.
