Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale

One of the last Lamborghini Gallardos that we're likely to see before Lambo's entry level coupe is replaced, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale has made its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In addition to lots of extra consonants and vowels, the new Gallardo packs extra power and performance into a gorgeous red package.

Inspired by the race-spec Gallardos that compete in Lamborghini's Blancpain Super Trofeo series, the LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale (damn, that's a mouthful) packs a powerful punch in a street-legal package. You don't have to go far to realize that the new Gallardo gets 10 extra horses over the LP560-4—570 horses drawn from the 5.2-liter V-10 engine at 8,000 rpm. The car delivers 480 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm.

Assisting the engine in delivering its output to the rear wheels is a six-speed e-gear transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters. To get serious drivers off to the right start, the car features a "Thrust Mode" launch control setting.

I have trouble deciding whether the most eye-catching part of the new Gallardo is the sumptuous "Rosso Mars" paint or the massive step stool in the back. The paint represents Italy's racing heritage, and the spoiler, which Lamborghini concedes is "enormous", delivers three times the downforce of the spoiler on the Gallardo LP560-4.

The car sheds about 145 lbs. off the LP560-4 thanks to plenty of Lamborghini's favorite material (carbon composite), and is able to make the jaunt to 62 mph 0.3 seconds faster than the LP560-4 in a LP560-4 Superleggera-tying 3.4 seconds. The LP570-4 doubles that speed in 13.8 seconds and tops out at 199 mph.

Other distinctive elements of its design include Lambo-first red brake calipers, carbon fiber accents, 19-inch wheels, and an optional gloss-black roof. Inside, a generous dose of Rosso Mars Alcantara covers the backrests and dash underside. The steering wheel is suede, and carbon fiber accents are featured prominently.

Lamborghini will build 150 numbered examples of the "most extreme Gallardo ever."
