Lotus Teaser More Of A Baffler

As the hours wound down to the Frankfurt Motor Show, the automotive-teasing infrastructure went into overdrive. Companies frantically tried to tease, detail, and debut their Frankfurt wares in hopes that they'd be among the most interesting stories in Germany.

For its part, Lotus used an interesting strategy: leave everyone scratching their heads and wondering what the hell it's even teasing.

Lotus released a quick, 20-second teaser last week that features a buff boxer going toe to toe with... a car. We'll assume whatever car it is, is the one Lotus will be showing in Frankfurt.

We have to assume because the only thing the video says is "Coming Soon" and "Duel." We get a very brief, blurry glimpse of the car (captured in the picture above), and it looks like the Evora from what we can see. Apparently the email that accompanied the video said simply "The Lotus Fight: What the F...rankfurt."

The WTF is definitely correct.

The fight metaphor makes some sense. Lotus will bring three new cars to the Frankfurt show, one of which will be the new Elise S. It's clearly beefing up for a fight with its competitors. That fight is one that Lotus will be broadening to new theaters when it begins introducing new models like the Esprit.

Last time we looked at our Lotus calendar, the new Evora was first up on the docket. From what we can tell through the blinding light, the car doesn't have the curvy flanks of the Elise or Exige, so we're left to believe that it is indeed an Evora. Whether it's the new 2013 Evora or just the Evora GTE road car from last month's Concours, we're not sure.

The Evora is expected to debut this year, though, and Frankfurt seems like the perfect place for that to happen. The model will get thoroughly restyled for a more aggressive look.

Try to figure this one out:
