Bentley SUV To Look All Bentley

Wolfgang Durheimer sure loves to talk to the media, huh? In his short time at the helm of Bentley/Bugatti, he's basically confirmed a Bugatti sedan, Bentley SUV and, quite possibly, a Veyron successor. And, he's given hints and details at what those cars might look/drive like. The latest from Durheimer is that the Bentley SUV will look and feel like a full-on Bentley.

Despite borrowing heavily from current VW SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne for its underpinnings, Bentley's model will be all Bentley in terms of styling and driving. And that won't mean a sporty Continental GT face on a big, unwieldy Cayenne body; the Bentley SUV will look Bentley from every angle.

Durheimer explained to Car and Driver in Pebble Beach: "From the front view, you will immediately identify it as a Bentley. It comes from the lights and the grille . . . quite vertical, with mesh. I think it’s absolutely important that if you approach the car, you see it’s a Bentley. From the back it will be the same, because nobody has the oval-shaped exhaust pipes that we have, and of course we will make it nice and neat in the back."

He also indicated that they're working to give the car a sporty profile with signature Bentley accents. We'll take that to mean some of the same muscular, cat-like side cuts of the 2011 Continental GT and recently revealed 2012 Continental GTC.

Additionally, the SUV will be all Bentley at heart. Durheimer said that he expects Bentley to continue its role as the base camp for 12-cylinder engine development at VW. And the Bentley SUV will feature a 12-cylinder engine, though we're wondering if Crewe won't eventually offer the upcoming Continental GT V-8 as an option.

I wasn't particularly excited about the idea of a Bentley SUV, but it should be interesting to see what an ultra-premium SUV brings to the table.

Just what the gas doctor ordered....a V12 Suv...< sense the sarcasm. Probably a beautiful vehicle but Bentley should get on the "Green" page and maybe a V8 would be sufficient enough. What kind of roads are you driving a bentley on that u need a V12??
