Lamborghini Takes On Casino In Lawsuit

"Lambo vs. The Casino" —now that's a movie I'd go see. Sure as hell sounds better thanTransformers 3. But it's no movie, and it's likely to be far duller and more tedious than any Hollywood blockbuster.

According to the Associated Press, Lamborghini lawyers have filed a trademark lawsuit against the Dal Toro Exotic Car Showroom, Dal Toro Merchandise Gallery and Dal Toro Il Ristorante Italiano in Las Vegas. The businesses are all located in the Palazzo Las Vegas Resort.

Apparently, Lambo has decided that the Dal Toro business logo looks a whole lot like Lambo's raging bull, and Sant'Agata Bolognese ain't having none of it. Lawyers claim that the businesses are trying to exploit Lamborghini's image to draw customers into an unrelated retail and dining experience.

The owner of the Del Toro businesses hadn't yet heard of the lawsuit when contacted by the Las Vegas Sun last week. He commented that it sounded frivolous, and didn't appear particularly concerned.

Interestingly, the Dal Toro Exotic Car Showroom appears to specialize in Lamborghinis. A quick review of its website shows a variety of exotics including Bugattis and Ferraris, but a whole lot of focus on Lamborghini cars. In fact, seven out of nine of the home page slideshow photos featuring Lamborghini products exclusively or prominently. The Merchandise Gallery also sells Lamborghini gear. It seems like Lambo could have settled this quietly if it was that much of a problem.

Ordinarily, when an internationally acclaimed company like Lamborghini goes after a local restaurant or auto dealer, I'd say that the latter doesn't have a chance. But a Las Vegas casino-based restaurant and car dealership? They might just have the funding to weather the raging bull's ire.

In the meantime, compare Dal Toro's bull to Lambo's bull in our gallery and decide if it's close enough to cause a lawsuit. It's obviously inspired by Lamborghini, but anyone halfway familiar with the tried-and-true raging bull knows that there should be a muscular body behind those horns.
