More Teasing Than Necessary: Infiniti JX Concept

Are you the type of guy or gal that gets all excited and drooly over a crossover? If so, Infiniti's got just the drug you need—a slow, half-year teaser campaign for its upcoming JX crossover concept. If not, well, you're just an average person, because who's really that excited for yet another luxury crossover?

Don't get me wrong; I like teaser campaigns. When the car is something worth teasing, something like the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. I don't even mind them if it's a new production model that people are particularly excited about. But who really gets that excited about a crossover concept?

Lest you think I'm being a little too hard on Infiniti, you should note that this is one of seven teaser pictures planned between now and August's Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach. After a long hiatus following an initial April sketch-teaser, Infiniti will release a new photo every Thursday on its Facebook page between now and the show. Now isn't that a whole lot of teasing for a whole lot of mundane crossover?

At least Infiniti's psyched. Ben Poore, vice president of Infiniti Americas, said in a statement: "Families don't have many luxury vehicle options today. The new Infiniti JX will be the seven-passenger antidote to the ho-hum luxury crossovers that are out there right now."

I don't know that I agree that families don't have many luxury vehicle options (Audi, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, on and on...), but a little less "ho hum" should be a good thing. The fact that it features inspiration from the Essence concept is another good thing.

From what we've seen, the JX should be an attractive crossover with narrow but well-defined headlights and curvy side cuts. It should be worth checking out in Pebble Beach, but I just don't think it's worth following religiously on Facebook. If you disagree, stay tuned to Infiniti's Facebook page for the next teaser coming in a couple days.

Most people can't afford to drive a Lamborghini or similar cars so a teaser for that is a waste of time to them. Not everyone likes those over priced vehicles that aren't attainable. A luxury car that is attainable apparently isn't for you, but that is your opinion. If it is so uninteresting to you why did you waste your time writing about it??

Thank you Andrew! A Lamborghini is nice eye candy, but I live in the real world. I want to see and read more about vehicles that everyone or almost everyone can afford.

I agree with you imwithcoco, unless I hit the Powerball, I will never own a Lambo so I welcome coverage on cars that I can barely afford....

Why not tease people who already "Like" Infiniti? It's Facebook, it's not costing them anything. Plus, it's got us talking about it, right?
