Did Chrysler Spin Off SRT To Screw With Us? First Move: The Viper Camper

As you may or may not have heard, Chrysler spun-off their Street and Racing Technology division into its own standalone brand earlier this week, naming Dodge chief Ralph Gilles its CEO and president. The company didn't waste much time getting down to business, but chose an odd move as one of its first public maneuvers. It "teased" the 2013 Dodge Viper (or at least some form of Viper) in response to social media inquiries about the upcoming muscle car.

The picture shows the front end of a Viper SRT10 mashed with a truck cabin and large camper. The car has three sets of wheels to haul all your overnight accommodation needs. It also gets some sweet, body paint-matching flames, and a big, ol' "Viper SRT10" designation plastered to its side.

The "sneak peek" appeared with a simple comment: "Like many of you, Twitter user @DaveOrrSales asked for a taste of what's to come at SRT. We dodged death to sneak you this top-secret photo. That's all you get, crew.”

So it looks like the reinvented SRT is coming with a healthy serving of sense of humor.

And who wouldn't love having a 600-hp V-10 power when speeding to the lake or mountains?

The new move at Chrysler is part of a greater corporate shuffling in the wake of Fiat's takeover of 52 percent of the company. Fiat is implementing a model similar to the one that it uses in Europe, where each brand has its own CEO responsible for profitability.
