A German Rotary Supercar On The Way

Rotary engines; not many cars sport them nowadays. And even fewer supercars have them. But a new teaser gives us a look at an upcoming German supercar powered by a four-rotor engine. It's called the Predator GT and it comes from the suitably named Rotary Super Cars.

Rotary already teased the Predator last year. But that car looked entirely different. Apparently, the company took some heavy flak for making a highly derivative car that looked like a Ferrari 599 GTB with a couple of extra vents and body mods. So, they went back to the drawing board and designed a completely new car. My man Viknesh, over at Motor Authority, likens it to a Lamborghini, which I can see from the rear cabin back, but the front still looks pretty Ferrari to me. But even a Ferrari-Lambo hybrid is more original than a straight 599 rip-off—especially when you throw in those weird, lightning bolt-esque lines (no, those aren't the result of a fuzzy picture).

Even the name has changed—from Raptor GT to Predator GT. Wonder if they wanted to avoid confusion with the equally buzzworthy Mosler Raptor?

The plan is to offer several different variants of the car including a base GT-S sporting 500 spinning horses or so on up through a top-end, 1,200-hp GT-RSR version. There will also be a stripped down track version called the Club Sport. The base will use a naturally aspirated 2.6-liter four-rotor engine thought to be a pair of 1.3-liter rotary engines sourced from the Mazda RX-8, while more powerful versions will get some forced air. The engines will work with an eight-speed sequential manual gearbox.

The Raptor GT's curb weight is planned to dip as low as 2,425 lbs., delivering acceleration of under 3 seconds to 60 mph.

No word on when we might see an actual car or concept. There's reportedly a prototype under construction, but for right now, the rotary supercar is still in the vaporware category.

really strange lines on this car, but I would love to check out the rotary engine pumping out 1,200-hp!
