Video: Koenigsegg CCXR vs. Supercharged Corvette Z06

Much like watching two heavyweight icons like Ali and Frasier gruel it out for supremacy, there's something magical about watching two ultra-powerful, iconicly awesome supercars go head to head. Even when the match-up is odd and skewed.

The latest piece of supercar throw-down to bubble to the surface of the Interwebs is a Drag Times piece with a supercharged Corvette Z06 and a Koenigsegg CCXR.

Despite the question of why they chose a supercharged Z06 rather than just going with an already-supercharged ZR1, the Corvette brings plenty of firepower to the gunfight: 690 horses worth of 7.0-liter fury. Versus most cars that would look like a small army, but versus the 1,020-hp CCXR, it's a bit of a David v. Goliath. Add the CCXR's ridiculously light, 2,821-lb. build, 3.1-second to 62 mph, and 8.9 second to 124 mph, and it's looking like a run-away victory for the Swede.

Unless, of course, we're talking looks. While Corvettes have always had a sort of utilitarian sportscar—kind of a blue collar made it rich—look, Koenigseggs are just downright unattractive. For some reason (payoff?), Forbes voted the CCX as one its "World's Most Beautiful Cars" ever in 2009. Despite that designation (possibly from a blind guy), the CCX and CCXR are as ungainly and derivative as every Koenie design that came before them. While not a top-end aesthetic masterpiece, the Corvette Z06 is certainly much easier on the eyes.

But the race isn't about looks; it's about head-to-head performance on a mile of dry, skid-marked asphalt. It's about who gets out of the box quicker and who keeps it screaming to the end of the cones. There can be only one. See if it's the same one you guessed:

1000HP Koenigsegg CCXR against 690 horse Vette, who was driving the Koenigsegg? James May?

Both cars get off to a slow start thanks to a bunch a wheel spin, but the Z06 finds traction first, jumps out in the lead and never looks back. Exotic sports cars with huge horsepower numbers are great for bragging, but unless you know how to handle its power correctly, youre going to get wheel spin and second place...Sorry Johan!

Wow looks like fun...I want the blown Z06 but without drag radials sub 12 sec 1/4s are hard to pull off
