Purse-o-holic's Beware - Hyundai Unveils Genesis Prada

Just days ago, Hyundai Motor Company began sales of the extremely limited edition Genesis Prada. Hyundai plans to sell 1,200 vehicles initially in the Korean market, then later expand into the Middle East and China. Genesis Prada is such an exclusive vehicle that each car will be built to customized personal orders, uniquely sporting a GP500 emblem intended to emphasize scarcity.

In case you’re laughing, this new Hyundai is so much more than a publicity gimmick. The Genesis Prada reflects the diligent efforts of two industry giants, Prada and Hyundai, and aims to address the most sophisticated clientele from both markets. This model has been in the R&D phase for over two years, since the 2009 Seoul Motor Show. Now, for the first time, the Hyundai Genesis Prada is available for purchase… if you’re Korean and considered VIP, that is.

The Genesis Prada is based on the 2012 Genesis sedan and relies on Hyundai’s Tau V8 5.0 GDi engine. The Tau V8 has landed on Ward’s 10 Best Engines list for three years consecutively. Which makes sense, especially considering this value-driven super lux rages with a smooth and powerful 429 hp and 376 lb-ft engine, mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The folks at Hyundai and Prada made one key improvement with the Genesis Prada that all luxury automotive enthusiasts will notice—special paint. Special color options include Black Nero, Blue Baltico, and Brown Moro. All of which are applied via a three-layer gold pearl stereoscopic technique. In addition, the radiator grille, emblem, and door handles are treated with dark chrome intended to mirror the palladium-coated buckles found on Prada bags. The Genesis Prada also sits on 19-inch alloy wheels, and sports a head-turning wedge antenna. FYI, it’s a commonly accepted fact that wedge-shaped antennas indicate how successful you are.

Prada also saw fit to artisan-craft the Genesis interior as well. The company’s signature leather, saffiano, lines the interior, dashboard, and upholstery to firmly place this vehicle in the posh category. Because of the vehicle’s scarcity and uniqueness, Hyundai and Prada won’t be selling the Genesis Prada in the traditional manner. Instead, the companies have opted to perform some type of exclusive black-ops VIP marketing campaign aimed for elite potential customers. No word yet on what this means or how you purchase one. But, you know, that old jingle: “if you have to ask…”.
