Mercedes SLS AMG Ambulance Concept

If I were in need of emergency medical assistance, the last vehicle I'd expect (or want) to show up is a Mercedes SLS AMG. I suppose it could probably get there a little faster than your average ambulance, but once there, what exactly are you going to do—get scrunched into the passenger seat or trunk?

Luckily for those requiring emergency aid in the future, the SLS AMG emergency medical vehicle is just a concept that Mercedes designed for the RETTmobil show going on now in Germany.

One of the various interesting concepts that Mercedes is presenting this year in recognition of its 125th anniversary, the SLS Emergency is more of a way for Mercedes to bring attention to more practical emergency vehicles that it actually does offer. The concept is a silver SLS AMG with blue flashing lights and red decals.

I assume the SLS Emergency will serve to draw people in to Mercedes booth, where it will show other emergency service concepts and information, including designs based on the S-Class and E-Class sedans.

RETTmobil is an emergency services convention held annually in Fulda, Germany. The convention focuses on emergency technology and vehicles and how they relate to the field.

Mercedes describes the event in its release: "The RETTmobil 2011 is the international forum for innovation, safety, quality, competence and training for approximately 20,000 trade visitors from home and abroad. The eleventh edition of this fair is this year on two records: In addition to Mercedes-Benz 388 exhibitors from 16 nations represented, more than ever before."

While the "medical" aspect of the SLS Emergency seems a little strange to me, exotic cars aren't complete strangers to the emergency services world. In the past, models like the Lamborghini Gallardo and Chevy Corvette have been transformed into police cars.
