Chevy Planning Several Corvette Performance Packages

As you probably know, if you're a GM fanatic (do those exist?) or just a guy that happens to read a lot of auto news, Chevy will turn 100 next year. Chevy clearly wouldn't let such a prestigious birthday go by without some recognition, and we've already seen one little present: the Corvette Centennial Edition. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Chevy also has a few more special edition performance packages, along with a few modifications, in store for the Corvette. A Chevy dealer recently got onto the Interwebs and spilled the beans.

Car dealers are a little like kids when it comes to secrets. They get early access to some pretty juicy car information and just can't wait to tell all their closest friends, and, by extension, the entire world. Montana Chevy dealer Ken Fichtner got some advance product information on the special edition 2012 Corvettes and immediately hopped on his router to share the good news on Corvette Forum. And once something of interest hits the Web, it's as good as global.

The 2012 Corvette ZR1 will get even more exclusive with the High Performance package. Though details don't point to any tuning of the LS9 engine, the package will deliver a variety of visual and performance enhancements like black aluminum wheels (19s in front, 20s in back), a six-speed closed-ratio manual transmission, and Michelin PS Cup tires.

The Technology Package will take the 2012 Corvette from hardcore American muscle to comfortable, technological wonder. The package adds conveniences like Bluetooth, navigation system with heads-up display, Bose audio, and a USB 2 port.

Some changes to look for on the general 2012 Corvette include a new steering wheel design, black brake calipers, and 9-speaker Bose audio system. New colors like Carbon Flash Metallic and Carlisle Blue Metallic will be available to buyers. The Z06 will get the option of a carbon fiber hood and the Corvette convertible will get a blue top option.

The next-generation C7 Corvette will launch a year after Chevy's centennial as a 2013 model. However, we should see it debut and/or launch during the 100th anniversary year.

You can scour the entire list over at the original Corvette Forum post.
