World's Fastest Car Gets Darker

We've been so caught up in the start of the New York Auto Show that we almost missed two special edition Veyrons that launched across the world at the Shanghai Auto Show, also going on this week. However, special edition, multimillion dollar hypercars have a way of making themselves seen and heard. Loud and clear.

The models include a roadster version of the Veyron and a blacked-out version of the Veyron Super Sport, the world's fastest car.

268 mph worth of capability hidden inside a menacing, shadowy exterior—there's something both intimidating and intriguing about that concept. The Shanghai debut trades in the stunning blue carbon fiber exterior seen last year in Paris for an equally stunning black visible carbon fiber paint scheme—no safety cone orange as seen on the original world record-breaking SS last summer, just pure black. Shiny aluminum pieces like the alloy wheels, fuel cap, and trunk provide some visual contrast to keep it interesting.

Inside, the new SS gets a two-toned leather interior done up in "Snow Beige" and "Beluga Black." Carbon fiber accents abound throughout.

One Chinese customer has already liked the model enough to buy it.

Conceived to showcase the design possibilities involved in purchasing a million-dollar car, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is a roadster that comes in a matte white with blue-carbon accenting. The alloy wheels are finished in blue to match with the carbon fiber elements down low.

Inside, the car is dominated by the blue-carbon theme, save for some white stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and shift knob. The car has an aluminum console.

Bugatti (and former Porsche) Chief Wolfgang Durheimer describes the model in a statement: "This Grand Sport is an example of the versatile possibilities customers have when designing their unique Grand Sport in co-operation with the Bugatti team. We will continue to expand the design possibilities for the Bugatti brand."
