Jeep Wrangler Mojave Debuts In New York

It's somewhat surprising that Jeep debuted the special edition Wrangler Mojave in New York this week. After all, a special-edition Wrangler named and inspired by the desert is probably more of a vehicle for the dirt, rock, and sand of the desert—say in Moab, where the Easter Jeep Safari is going on now. It certainly isn't the ideal vehicle for operating the traffic-clogged arteries of Manhattan. But, Jeep still chose to debut it there rather than in Utah. The special edition Wrangler gets both styling and hardware updates.

Based on the four-door Wrangler Sport, the Mojave gets a desert theme that includes its sand-colored body, roof, and fender flares, and lizard-adorned seats. There are also lizard decals throughout the exterior. The model comes standard with Rubicon wheel and tire package with rugged 17-inch wheels and 32-inch tires. Driftwood surrounds the vents, front-passenger grab handle, steering-wheel spokes, and door-handle inserts in the interior.

Jeep CEO Mike Manley said of the model: "The Mojave Trail is known for expeditions, exploration, and a rugged environment that features elevation, sand, canyons, a river crossing, and hill climbs—the perfect landscape for the Jeep Wrangler [unlike New York]. By creating the Jeep Wrangler Mojave, we are able to deliver another specialized vehicle that Jeep enthusiasts will love, while drawing new customers into Jeep showrooms."

The Mojave joins other special-edition Wranglers like the Call of Duty Black Ops Edition and Mountain edition.

The Wrangler Mojave will hit dealerships in June and will sell for $29,195 plus $750 destination fee. In addition to the "Sahara Tan" pictured, customers will be able to order their Mojaves in Bright White and Black.

Jeep and Mopar also have several special editions and accessory packages in Moab, including an aftermarket pickup package that adds a cab to the four-door Jeep Wrangler. Read more about those here.
