Koenigsegg Agera R Gets Tested

The world's fastest ski commuter has been lent to testers from Swedish auto rag Teknikensvarld. Unfortunately, as you could surmise from trying to pronounce the name of that magazine, Swedish isn't exactly the easiest language to follow. And journalist Erik Gustafsson ain't talking English. Luckily for us, speed, agility, and beautiful supercars are universal languages that can be understood with ease. So are smiles and elated exclamations.

The most powerful, promising supercar in a historical line that includes a former world-record holder, the Agera R is Koenigsegg's latest introduction. It made its debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show last month, bringing 1115-hp and 885 lb-ft of torque along with it. That massive output is secured via a 5.0-liter V8 engine with twin turbochargers. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission corrals all those horses and puts them to use.

A few weeks after its debut, Koenigsegg updated the world as to the Agera R's performance. It hits 62 mph in 2.9 seconds, 124 mph in 7.5 seconds and tops out around 245 mph. At Geneva, Koenigsegg indicated that the car has a "theoretical top speed" as high as 273 mph, foreshadowing a possible run at the production car world speed record that now stands at around 268 mph.

After Koenigsegg finished its own testing and specification, it was ready to send the car out on test drives. It started locally. Teknikensvarld's Erik Gustafsson took the car out in the snowy Swedish countryside and by all indications doesn't seem to be minding the 1,100 horses worth of million-dollar supercar under his accelerator foot. He got to drive the Agera R outfitted with the winter package, which includes a bespoke, aerodynamic Thule equipment box on the roof—for those days when you wake up late and need to speed to the local ski resort at 200 + mph.

No word on pricing yet, but the Agera R is expected to fetch an MSRP around $1.4 million.
