Want to Try Out the 2011 Chrysler 300? Head to Your Local Mall.

Want to Try Out the 2011 Chrysler 300? Head to Your Local Mall.

Trying to spike some interest and sales, Chrysler has announced a new test-drive campaign. The company is moving out of the dealer lots and showrooms and into the last great bastion of American consumerism: the shopping mall. Chrysler will be bringing several vehicle models to malls around the country. Not only will drivers get to test the new cars from the comfort of their own mall, they'll get a $15 gift certificate good at said mall. Sounds like a solid reason to test drive some new wheels.

I really wouldn't be particularly interested in test driving the 2011 Chrysler 200 (rebranded, not much more compelling Sebring) or the Town and Country, but what I like about this campaign is that it includes Chrysler's hottest car: the all-new 300. I wouldn't be inclined to go to the dealership to test out a 300—I have no plans of buying one, after all—but if I happened to be stopping at the mall, I'd definitely give it a go.

Chrysler's President and CEO of Chrysler Brand explained the logic of the move: "With today’s busy schedules, it is important that the Chrysler brand makes the vehicle decision and research process more convenient and hands-on to consumers."

Chrysler representatives will be available at the test drive events to answer questions.

With the move, Chrysler is elbowing into Ford territory. Ford's long-running "Swap Your Ride" campaign debuted in 2007. The campaign, which has been headlined by Mike Rowe from Discovery's 'Dirty Jobs', focuses on consumers who traded their own cars to test out Ford vehicles. Similarly, Chrysler will feature test drivers in an ad campaign of its own; test drivers will be registered for the chance to appear in a commercial.

If you live in Colorado, California, Michigan, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Missouri, Indiana or Massachusetts you'll be among the first to get your chance at a mall test drive.
