Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Sold Out For More Than a Year

Lamborghini executives' faces are probably even redder than the Arancia Argos paint that covers the Aventador LP700-4 that we're most familiar with. Not from embarrassment, but from sheer excitement. The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 debuted earlier this month to rave reviews and plenty of the right kind of attention, and the buyers are really responding. We already knew the Aventador LP700-4 was sold out, first-year supplies were announced gone just barely after the car had even made its official entrance in Geneva, but reports last week indicate that it's even 'sold outer' than we thought.

Lamborghini told the media last Wednesday that customers have ordered more than a year's production worth of Aventador LP700-4 models. When it announced that the Aventador was sold out earlier this month, indications were that it was just the first-year production worth.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann is happy about the trend. He summed it up in a statement: "Interest in the Aventador has been unprecedented."

So unprecedented, in fact, that Lamborghini is already feeling confident that the Aventador will replace the Murcielago as the company's most successful V12 car of all time. The Murcielago's production run of 4,099 was the most ever for a V12-powered Lamborghini.

Winkelman alluded to Lamborghini's confidence in the Aventador when speaking to Reuters earlier this month: "We would be happy to sell over the life cycle a bit more than the Murcielago."

Lamborghini hasn't revealed how many Aventadors that customers have ordered, but Winkelmann previously estimated it at around 700 units. And that's all before potential buyers have even gotten a load of the Aventador's desert promo.

While the Aventador LP700-4 has been a rousing success, it's not without its competition. Other Geneva supercars are also selling well.

The Ferrari FF also sold out its first year production earlier this month. Ferrari said that it had sold 800 units.

While the 60 Huayra orders that Pagani has confirmed pales in comparison to Ferrari's and Lamborghini's numbers, when you consider that the Pagani is several times the already premium prices of those models (estimated around $1.35 million), it's doing pretty well too.

Aventador deliveries will begin in the second half of this year.
