Koenigsegg Details Specs Of The Agera R

We learned just about all there was to know about the Koenigsegg Agera R back at the Geneva Motor Show: 5.0-liter twin turbo V8 worth 1,115 hp and 885 lb-ft, 2,926 lbs. worth of  weight, 273 mph "theoretical top speed", and custom gear from Thule and ski-maker Extrem for a special winter package. We were impressed.

What we didn't learn, however, was nearly as important as what we did. Koenigsegg offered the very shifty 273-mph speed, but didn't say a word about acceleration or other performance specs. This week, it's come clean.

The Agera R will tie the new Lamborghini Aventador in acceleration, hitting 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds. It will double that speed in 7.5 seconds and come to a stop from 124 mph in 12.7 seconds. A more mortal top speed of 245 mph is the official number, but we don't doubt that Koenigsegg is considering testing that theoretical 273 mph speed in the form of a world-record attempt.

The 1,115-hp figure comes at 6,900 rpm and the max torque of 885 lb-ft comes at 4,100 rpm. Redline hits at 7,250 rpm.

Efficiency—or lack thereof—is rated at 16 mpg U.S., which, while far from what you'd want to see from a daily commuter, isn't that bad when compared to offerings from Bugatti and Lamborghini. Koenigsegg edges out such supercar competitors by keeping the Agera R light and slick. Toward the former, Koenigsegg uses such lightweight components as a carbon fiber/aluminum honeycomb chassis and a pre-impregnated carbon fiber/Kevlar body. To optimize aerodynamics, Koenigsegg uses an adaptable rear wing, large rear diffuser, and aerodynamic-optimized body. The Agera R spits out 310 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

Though it's less than 3,000 lbs., the Agera R offers such equipment as power windows, climate control, satellite navigation system, and an audio system with MP3/USB connectivity.

There's no official price on the Agera R yet, but word has it that it will be in the $1.5-million range.
