Bentley Details Ice Speed Record Special Edition

Bentley recently smashed (its own) world speed record on ice with a 205.48 mph speed on a stretch of Baltic Sea ice off the coast of Finland. At the time, Crewe announced plans to celebrate its accomplishment with a special-edition Continental at the Geneva Motor Show. Getting a head start on the other debuts and announcements of the show, Bentley detailed the "Ice Speed Record" edition on the day before the official start of Geneva. The car is built on the old Continental Supersports platform, as opposed to the new Continental GT platform.

The "most powerful model ever to bear the famed Winged B emblem" features a 631-hp version of the Continental GT's twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine. The upgraded engine funnels 590 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission. Like the Supersports that broke the ice record, the Ice Speed Record Edition will be capable of running on both gasoline and bioethanol. It is an all-wheel-drive model with 40/60 front/rear power distribution. The Ice Speed Record edition hits 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

The car will be made available in a trio of colors: Quartzite, Beluga, and Arctica White. It will also get red accents and Ice Speed Record badging around the exterior, and will ride on 20-inch, 10-spoke Supersports wheels.

Inside, the car gets diamond-quilted Alcantara doors, panels and seats, soft-leather-adorned steering wheel and gear lever, carbon fiber trim, and red accents and seat piping. While the car is based on the first-gen Continental platform, it integrates the touchscreen infotainment system from the second-generation Continental GT, which was introduced last year.

Only 100 models will be built, and pricing has yet to be announced.
