Warning - Infectious Videos Present

When you recognize that a video like “Chocolate Rain” by Tay Zonday made national news, you realize that viral videos impact and reflect society just as much as other, more credible, political and cultural stories. Of course, it’s likely that 30 seconds of gargantuan snot bubbles captured on tape fail to paint a pretty picture of how far we’ve come as a human race. But on the other hand these videos represent the true oddities and exceptional moments we’ve managed to share and appreciate with everyone else. We cherish these videos precisely because they’re so rare. Perhaps it’s a good sign that we can smile or laugh at ourselves. Without further adieu, here are some of the most popular, most entertaining viral automotive videos in cyberspace. Please attach and adjust your protective face mask to avoid the transmission of IVD, or Infectious Video Disease.

Smart Car Crash

This video has nearly 16 million views and attempts to answer a question we’ve all pondered from time to time: can a Smart Car driver survive in an actual accident? The video says it best, “from 70 miles an hour to naught in 1 second, energy that moved 20 tons of concrete leapt into the air and rebounded to the side of the road. We didn’t know what we’d find when we reached the wreckage.”

Ken Block Rally Car Jump

In November of 2006, Ken Block daringly made an attempt to jump 171 feet in his Subaru rally car for the Discovery Channel show Stunt Junkies. The video has over 21 million views and rightly so, he lands it. Ken humorously attributes his fearlessness to his knowledge of physics.

Motorcycle Stunts

You may be wondering, how can a person possibly become good at motorcycle stunts? The answer: probably by becoming good at motorcycle crashes. Around 3:00 minutes into the video a trickster performs a series a quick kick movements during a high-speed wheelie. Wait…maybe I should call him something more macho, like ‘ryder’, lest he should hear me and deliver an auto-assisted kick to the noggin.

Mercedes vs. Elderly Woman

With around 5 million views, this video isn’t as popular as some of the others. But, what it lacks in popularity it makes up for with hilarity. In an attempt to film a home skateboarding flick, some skaters inadvertently catch a showdown between an elderly pedestrian and a cranky Mercedes driver. Real or fake? Either way, it's still a good laugh.

Awesome Off Road Truck Ad

How could a truck advertisement get almost 4 million views? Easy, the video makes viewers feel like they’re on the set for the movie Commando. In case you’re in the market to purchase one of these Czech-made war machines, this clip is a fun opportunity to see what they’re capable of…à la Arnold Schwarzenegger.
