Lamborghini Releases Aventador Teaser Pic

In this day and age of obsessive paparazzi and real-time internet updates, it seems like carmakers are a step behind. First, we had to humor Pagani with its not-so-gripping teaser videos, while spy shots—including scanned magazine pages of the full Huayra—were hitting the Web, and now we have to do the same for the other big Geneva supercar debut: the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. Lamborghini has released its own "spy" teaser photo that really doesn't show us any more than the dozens of other spy shots we've already seen.

Lamborghini's official photo looks straight out of the same shoot as the most recent spy photos that leaked late last month. The full shape of the car is clearly visible through the squiggly camo, and we get a good feel for the sharp angles in the front fascia and the bullet-like aerodynamics of the car.

Lamborghini will officially debut the Aventador on March 1. The Bull has yet to confirm the name of the car. Originally, Jota was the assumed name, but reports derived from trademarks and private meetings identified a new name: Aventador LP700-4. Most reports since then have referred to the car as Aventador.

Though Lamborghini has been tight-lipped in terms of the name and look of the car, it has detailed engine specs. The Aventador will be powered by an all-new, 6.5-liter V12 engine that puts out 691 horses and 509 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated to a new, seven-speed automated manual transmission with a single clutch. As that four at the end indicates, it will be an all-wheel drive.

Lamborghini hasn't provided performance figures, but 2.9 seconds to 62 mph and a 217 mph top speed have been floating around nearly as long as rumors about the car itself. The engine will be assisted in obtaining those lofty numbers by lightweight design built on a carbon fiber tub. The curb weight is expected to dip below 3,500 lbs.

I'd be surprised if we didn't see a few more official teaser photos before March 1.
