Noble Launches M600 Supercar

The Noble M600 supercar has been in development for a few years now, and last week the hard work came to fruition. Noble introduced the 650-hp supercar and indicated that it will go on sale later this year. With a powerful engine and lightweight components all over, the M600 promises to be one of the most exhilarating cars of 2011.

The M600 packs a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 Yamaha engine that puts out 650 horses and 604 lb-ft. If you don't think you can handle all that power (Nancy), then you can adjust the power output to 450 or 550—after all, it's not like you need 650 ponies on a trip to the convenience store. Then, again, you don't really need a Noble M600 for that, either. The engine is mated to a Graziano six-speed manual transmission.

While the Noble's engine is relatively modest when compared with other top-end hypercars like the Bugatti Veyron, the car actually has a higher power-to-weight ratio thanks to its lightweight build. The car features a tubular space frame with plenty of carbon fiber on top and weighs under 2,650 lbs. at the curb.

The M600 boasts a sheet of impressive numbers: 0 to 60 mph between 3 and 3.5 seconds, 0 to 120 mph in 8.9 seconds and an estimated 225 mph top speed. And it does all that at a much lower price than competitors like the Veyron or all-new Pagani Huayra, with an expected 200,000 GBP ($317,000) base price.

In designing the M600, Noble sought to take the computer out of the machine and deliver a rawer, more connected driving experience. This effort shines through in equipment like the manual transmission (rather than the paddle-shift that has become a standard on other supercars) and a "Missile Launch" switch that allows drivers to turn the traction control on and off at will.

Noble showed the M600 for the first time at the Autosport International Racing Car Show. Unfortunately for those that didn't get to see it, we're limited to a series of renderings rather than real photos.

The M600 will go on sale this summer. Noble hasn't indicated how many it will offer, but it will be a low-volume, handcrafted car with initial production of one per month. And according to the company's account, there's already a demand, with 50 buyers waiting to be among the first to own the supercar. While pricing is expected to be around 200,000 GBP, official pricing has yet to be announced.
