Detroit Auto Show Thumbs Up Or Down For New Vehicle Popularity

The old saying "everybody is a critic" rings true for movies, music, television, but particularly for auto shows. We all have our favorites. One person’s love of the Corvette can’t compare with another person’s love of the Mini Cooper. This year’s Detroit Auto Show proved to be no exception when it came to a variety of opinions about all the new designs, the fresh concepts, and whether or not the Detroit's Big 3 really are back from the brink of ruin.

Here's how a recent automotive news article summized this years automobiles;

Toyota Prius cThumbs Up: Prius c Concept

When you think Prius you might think “great mileage, not so great with the styling.” Toyota has changed that with their new sporty version of the hybrid classic. One look at the placement of those rear wheels and you know you’re in for plenty of leg room comfort.

Thumbs Down: Prius vToyota Prius v

Just because Prius got it right with their sports car doesn’t mean they got it right with their V wagon. What was originally a chunky kind of styling has now been melded into a wagon that needs to go on a diet. Just because we care about the environment doesn’t mean we have to drive around in a block of cheese.

Volkswagen PassatThumbs Up: VW "Stratocaster" Passat

Rock and roll never sounded so good. At least that’s what you’ll be thinking as you tool around in the Volkswagen Passat when they start adding Fender Audio as standard equipment. The kids in the back will just have to get over it when you crank up the REO Speedwagon on your Volkswagen.

Thumbs Up: Dodge Charger InteriorDodge Charger Interior

Okay, you’ve got a classic muscle car with Nappa leather and metal trim. Finally, two great things that belong together. It’s like the peanut butter and chocolate of muscle cars.

2011 Chrysler 300Thumbs Down: 300 missing grille

File this under two steps forward and one step backwards. Chrysler restyled their 300 sedan making it more elegant and, dare we say, more luxurious. But then it went ahead and dropped the cool grille. That’s what made the 300 a hit. And now, not so much. Gives us back our grille!

Thumbs Up: Hyundai Curb’s tiresHyundai Curb Tire

Some things are too good to be true, like the tires on Hyundai’s Curb. These beauties where made just for the splash at the auto show. And what a splash: extremely eye-catching, with fluorescent orange treads that crisscross around the tire. Note to Hyundai: we want those tires!
