Pagani C9 Gets a [Worthless] Teaser Video

With the year coming to a close, there is a budding sense of excitement and optimism within the automotive world. We already know that 2011 will be a big year in the supercar market. Porsche has an undisclosed but "spectacular" new car to show in Detroit next month, a car that's thought to be a high-end supercar. Lamborghini appears ready to launch its Aventador LP700-4 at moment's notice, and will likely do so at the Geneva Motor Show. And Pagani has its own new car for Geneva: the V12-powered C9. Yes, it's going to be a good couple of months.

Helping to stoke our excitement, Pagani has given us a little new-year teaser of its supercar. Now, the C9 has been anything but a stranger to spy photos and speculation, but this our first official look from Pagani. That is, if you can call it a "look".

The video is a teaser in the strictest sense. It focuses on everything but the car—from a dilapidated factory to a guy drinking espresso. And the only actual teaser of the car isn't the car at all—it's a small, silver model of the car.

What the video does confirm is that Pagani will move to a more sculpted rear end. One of the first spy shots that we saw of the C9 last year showed two separate rear-ends: one flat one like the Zonda and one with a more sculpted separation of tailights and rear fascia. A more recent spy photo showed the latter model, and this teaser confirms the new rear-end is go. The C9 will also get center-mounted exhaust.

Other than that, Pagani's teaser doesn't really show us anything we didn't know, except maybe that Pagani is completely fooling itself in a world where spy photos and video run rampant. We've already seen far more of the C9 than this teaser has to offer, so it's not really 'teasing' anything.

Bad video or not, the C9 promises to be a thrilling hypercar. The car will be powered by a bespoke 690-hp V12 engine from Mercedes-Benz AMG. With the help of a carbon-titanium tub, the C9 (or whatever it's called in production) is expected to weigh around 2,755 lbs.

Looking a little farther ahead in the world of automotive anticipation, I can't wait until someone pits the 690-hp V12 C9 against the 691-hp V12 Aventador LP700-4. That should be an epic battle.

If you like to watch random scenes from Italy without any actual cars, be sure to check out the new teaser.
