Less Camoflage, More Lambo: Aventador Spotted Out in The Wild

The Lamborghini Aventador, or the V12 Lambo flagship formerly known as the Jota, is getting closer and closer to an expected Geneva Motor Show launch. Pictures of a lightly camoed version of the supercar have recently been making their way around Facebook and the greater Internet. These pictures provide one of the best looks yet at the model that will top Lamborghini's future line.

The details are really in the pictures below, but what these pictures reveal is an Aventador with sharp angles reminiscent of the Reventon and Sesto Elemento. The front end is dominated by angles in the form of its large air intakes and what appears to be a rather pointy nose. From the side, the Aventador looks similarly proportioned to the Murcielago, the outgoing model that it will replace, but adds some rather large air intakes behind the doors.

Lamborghini has been playing a rather odd game with the Aventador, remaining coy about certain details—details as basic as the car's name—while showing the car privately to potential customers and being quite public about such major details as the new engine that will power the car. That engine is a 700-hp 6.5-liter V12 engine that will work in conjunction with a lightning-fast, single-clutch transmission.

Meanwhile, Lamborghini has administered its carbon fiber research to its latest flagship, cutting some 500 lbs. off the model as compared to the Murcielago. Those weight savings start with a carbon fiber monocoque tub.

The performance specs aren't quite official, but 2.9 seconds to 62 mph and 217 + mph top speed have been floating around long enough that we'd be more surprised if the final numbers look any different.

Look for more information as the calendar winds toward Geneva.

217 mph top speed would be great for the Garden State Parkway....
