Brabus Tunes The Tesla Roadster

Brabus is a German tuning firm known for all kinds of tunes—some hot, some outrageous, and some just downright awful. This is the first time that I've personally ever seen the firm offer an electric tuning kit (though there are others). In fact, it's the first time I've seen a tuned electric vehicle, period. Without the benefit of turbocharging and other tricks often used by tuners on gas engines, Brabus focused its attention on one of the other important aspect of the Tesla Roadster: charging. In conjunction with German electric company RWE, the firm now offers the Green Package to Tesla owners.

So how do you make an already green car green enough to justify calling your offering the 'Green' package? Well, you cut charging times, of course. The package is built around an RWE 240-volt quick-charging station that will be installed in the owner's garage. The station lets owners fully juice in less than six hours, about three times faster than charging with a standard home outlet. Interestingly, the package delivers 18,641 miles worth of free "eco-electricity" sourced from RWE's sustainable energy sources. Because an electric car is really only as green as the source of electricity that fuels it. After that, you'll have to start coughing up for the electricity bill.

Professional charger installation is included with the cost of package. And, for on-the-move charging, the Green Package also supplies one-year worth of free charging at RWE's network of public charge stations.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Brabus—or any tune for that matter—without some noticeable upgrades around the cockpit and exterior. Outside, Brabus adds a carbon fiber front lip, LED daytime running lights, side "space lights," Brabus rear spoiler and diffuser, and Monoblock S alloy wheels wrapped up in 215/35 ZR 18 (front) and 255/30 ZR 19 (back) high-performance tires. And if you don't like that baby blue paint, you can choose any exterior color from Brabus' palette. Inside, the Brabus Roadster gets scuff plates, illuminated Brabus badging, and a perforated leather and Alcantara interior.

Brabus also adds a little safety with an upgraded sound system capable of emulating a V8 and race car.
