Video: Jay Leno Drives the Jaguar C-X75 Concept

There are few if any high-end cars that haven't made their way through Jay Leno's Garage. Because when he's not making stupid one-liners about Bill Clinton, he's out driving some of the most exclusive cars on the planet. Case in point: the Jaguar C-X75. An incredible but fantastical concept, the C-X75 is based largely on future technology. Yet Jay Leno has already driven it.

"It still looks like a Jag. But it doesn't look anything like a Jag." Those are some of the words Leno uses to introduce Jaguar's latest concept.

Somewhat of a surprise at a 2010 Paris Motor Show already stocked to the rafters with heavy-hitting supercar concepts (see Lotus, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento), the Jaguar C-X75 was still able to steal the show, earning honors like Autoweek's "Best of Show". That was partly because of its Jag/un-Jag looks and partly because of the high-tech hybrid powertrain that provides a glimpse at the possibilities of future, high-performance hybrids, a combination that leaves Jay Leno "speechless." (Maybe Jag should come out with supercar concepts more often.)

Instead of your typical motor(s)/engine combination, Jaguar uses four 180-hp electric motors—one at each wheel—and two flex-fuel jet turbines to deliver range above and beyond the 68 miles worth of all-electric capability—560 miles of range by initial indications. It's those turbines that call the C-X75's future into question; they're still in the rough experimental stages so any possible production version may look quite different.

The hybrid nature of the C-X75 is certainly not an impediment to its supercar status. The car tears to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and 100 mph in 5.5 seconds. It has a top speed of 205 mph.

Jay gives us the best look at the car that we've seen with an exterior walkaround and interior analysis. Not surprisingly, Jag has a tight leash on him, and he doesn't exactly push the thing to the limits, but it's a nice look that includes a conversation with lead designer Ian Cullum.

As much as I'm not a fan of Leno on The Tonight Show, the auto world is better off for having such a recognizeable celebrity car fan. Jay always gives us a much more intimate look at the hottest limited editions and concepts.

As for the C-X75, Jaguar is reportedly doing a production feasibility study on it, so lets hope that there's a sufficient case for a market launch.

Mr. Leno takes care of the rest:

I would love to spend the day in Jay's Garage looking at and maybe driving a few of his cars.
