Lamborghini Confirms That Sesto Elemento Production is a Possibility

Last week we reported that Lamborghini was considering a limited run production of its Sesto Elemento concept that it showed in Paris. That report originated out of rumors and whispers reported on by a French automotive blog, so it was far from confirmed. While Lamborghini hasn't completely confirmed the concept for production, indications from CEO Stephan Winkelmann are that the company is heading in that direction. Due to safety restrictions, the car would be offered as a track-only model.

According to Autocar, Winkelmann said of the concept: "“We are testing the Sesto Elemento at the moment and if it all goes well then we could look at a limited production run. But it would not be homologated because there are complications with things like airbags. It would be for track use only."

Last week's rumor put Sesto production at between seven and 10 units. Winkelmann stated that a 20-model production like that of the Reventon represents the maximum production we'll see for the Sesto Elemento.

Autocar's report indicates a price above the 1 million euro Reventon, and the last rumor put price at as much as €2.5 million, or close to $3.5 million.

Debuted at the Paris Motor Show in late September, the Sesto Elemento is a concept that Lamborghini worked to keep under 1,000 kilograms. The final product came out to just 999 kg (2,202 lbs.). Powered by Lamborghini's 570-hp V10, the Sesto posted numbers of 2.5 seconds to 62 mph and a 217.5 mph top speed. This thing could clearly do some damage on a track.

In an interesting foreshadowing statement, Winkelmann concluded: “We do not want to ever produce and show cars just for a museum."

That's good news for the future of Lamborghini concepts. Hopefully, Lamborghini will complete testing soon and make the Sesto official.
