A Peek at Custom Focus Models at the L.A. Auto Show

If you are thinking that Ford has been featuring the Focus at every major automotive show this year, you are right. The reason? Compact cars sales account for 20% of the U.S. market. In fact, half of all buyers under 30 select compact cars.

Ford’s presence at the recent L. A. Auto Show was no exception; Ford showcased a couple of aftermarket-enhanced Ford Focus models, as well as the 2011 Ford Focus Personalization Vehicle, and an all-new Focus race car concept. Three custom incarnations of the Focus were showcased in order to demonstrate how the automaker's accessories are able to transform the small car, giving it a whole new character.

The Ford Focus 3dCarbon version features 3M’s unique VentureShield Paint Protection Film (with a matte finish) over all panels except the bonnet, which is painted a glossy black. The panels are covered in the satin film, which is removable for ease in updating.

Other upgrades include 20-inch glossy black Series KM650-KMC wheels, H&R sports springs to improve handling, and an FSWerks cat-back exhaust for a more aggressive engine note, as well as a 3dCarbon roof wing for added downforce.

Under the hood, the FSWerks package includes an FSWerks cold air intake and a new engine cover to differentiate it. There’s also an FSWerks stainless steel exhaust system for an upgraded engine note and to improved flow for more power.

Another version showcased at the L.A. Auto Show was the Personalization Vehicle, a Focus with Caribbean blue highlights throughout the car, particularly the headlights, mirrors, wheels, and fog light housings, white tri-coat paint job, and a wide bodykit, and bespoke graphics.

Ford’s Vehicle Personalization chief designer, Mark Conforzi, recently stated: “We created a theme of an all-white vehicle with bursts of Caribbean Blue accents running throughout, which lends itself to many of the current trends seen in fashion. White with dimension is a hot trend in Europe, and we found ways to incorporate that into our Focus in a manner that perfectly fits the vehicle.”

According to Melvin Betancourt, Ford design manager: “These cars deliver great ideas for the variety of approaches you can take with the new Focus. It’s the perfect base to start from for aftermarket customization, whether you’re looking to take this Focus racing or you just want to make a statement about your personality.”

The Focus will arrive on dealer lots early next year, and is expected to offer 40 mpg, with options such as WiFi and MyFord Touch. Focus will also feature active park assist.
