Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder Gets A Little Harder

If there's one place you'd expect to see a full-performance Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, it'd be in the sunny city and suburbs of Los Angeles. And that's exactly where Lamborghini chose to introduce its new high-performance Gallardo Spyder, which is essentially the Gallardo Spyder Superleggera.

The car, called officially the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, sports the same 562-hp 5.2-liter V10 as the hard-topped Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. The Performante has the same 201 mph top speed as the Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder, but drops 0-to-62 mph time below four seconds (3.9 seconds).

When it comes to other mods, Lamborghini describes the car as "less weight, more fascination." As with all new Lamborghinis, weight savings through composite construction--more than 140 lbs. worth of savings-- play an integral role in the Spyder Performante. Lamborghini uses carbon fiber pieces like rear spoiler, side sills, retractable roof, parts of the underbody and diffuser. Carbon fiber also makes its way into the interior in places like the seat shells and door panels. Lighter mechanical components also helped in keeping weight down to 3,274 lbs.

Though 'light' was the word, Lamborghini didn't skimp on luxuries like navigation system, power windows, air conditioning and rear-view camera.

In order to help the Spyder break 62 in under four seconds and top 200, Lamborghini improves aerodynamics with a new rear diffuser and redesigned front end. Other performance mods include tuned suspension, bigger brakes and lightweight, 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped neatly in Pirelli P Zero Corsa rubber.

No pricing or delivery information yet, but we don't suspect Lambo will have a difficult time selling this one.
