Discovery HD Theater to Present The WRC

The World Rally Championship left American televisions without much fanfare way back in 2004. Personally I have missed it, a lot. Rivaling F1 for heart-stopping, made-for-TV drama, the WRC has continued on without its US audience just fine. Discovery HD knows we want our dirt/ice/tarmac/snow/cliff racing back, and they plan on obliging us with close-up HD-maximized rally coverage, starting on October 4th with a six-hour 'Dummies Guide to WRC', featuring shows dedicated to the drivers, cars, and specific stages of the WRC . . .

The actual race broadcasts will be hour long chop-jobs, shown in primetime on Sundays. Not the greatest choice considering the WRC runs parallel to the NFL. This is why we invented DVRs!

In 2008, the World Rally Championship was shown in 188 countries via 228 broadcasters, with a total audience of over 633 million. That is a hell of an audience; it's about time we Yanks caught up on this surprisingly chaotic and entertaining series.
