Top Gear To Debut On November 21

There really aren't enough hot cars on American television. Especially not when compared to Great Britain where several shows dedicated to the fascinating world of automobiles tantalize viewers. Here, we have to settle for the occassional sneak peek into Jay Leno's garage—just one more reason to hate that smarmy, big-chinned bastard.

Well, the History Channel is fixin' to fill the void of compelling car television with the importation of Great Britain's most famed auto show: Top Gear. This was announced back in the spring, but last week, History made it official with the debut date: Sunday, November 21 at 10 / 9 central.

The date was contained within a new trailer for the show, which shows some of the muscle car donuts, supercar straightlines, and smoking tires that you'd expect from a high-octane show. That means you can cut BBC out of your cable package in about three weeks and still enjoy Top Gear.

It remains to see how successfully the British standard translates to the U.S. Watching the three hosts, who so far have the collective personality of a pair of goat testicles, it seems unlikely that they'll be able to catch the engaging dynamic of the British version's trio. After sitting through the teaser below, I just wanted to smack each of those guys and say: "Yeah, we get it: you get to drive awesome, fast cars. That's kind of the job you signed up for. Now stop acting like eight-year-olds peeing your pants out of excitement and get to the facts and analysis already." We do appreciate the short-sleeved flannel shirt cameo, though. Hopefully, these guys will get better with time.

The three I speak of are comedian Adam Ferrara of Rescue Me fame, Tanner Foust, a Hollywood-grade stunt driver and rally racer, and Rutledge Wood, the heavyset, awkward guy that loves himself some NASCAR.

Before the worldwide premier, History will hold a private sneak preview of Top Gear at the SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Hilton on November 3. In helping to stoke some buzz for the show, there will be a fleet of Top Gear taxis providing free service for showgoers.
